Honourable Justice Olukayode Ariwoola has been confirmed as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) by the Senate.
The confirmation took place on Wednesday after screening following President Muhammadu Buhari forwarding Ariwoola's name to the Senate.
The confirmation did not take place earlier as The Upper Chamber was on recess.
The former CJN, Tanko Muhammad, has resigned on health grounds but it was alleged that it was due to the corruption charges accusations against him.
Ariwoola had stepped in as acting CJN and after being screened on Wednesday was confirmed by the Senate.
The confirmation issue had been brought up by Senate Leader, Senator Abdullahi Gobir, and the motion had been seconded by Minority Leader Senator Philip Aduda.
