Kaduna: Abuja bound passenger train derails

A train bound for Abuja from Kaduna derailed halfway to the nation’s capital on Sunday.

It was gathered that the train with dozens of passengers on board departed Kaduna around 8:05 am but derailed at Jere about an hour later.

AllNews.ng gathered that currently efforts are being made to repair the train, with about three carriages off the tracks.

Even though it stopped in a mountainous area, security personnel, including soldiers and police officers, were present.n It was reported that they were on ground to offer support, as about three carriages went off the tracks.

On his verified X handle, Senator Shehu Sani, who once represented Kaduna North in the Senate, said, “A minor Abuja, Kaduna morning train derail near Jere but engineers are attending to it.”

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, NSIB while confirming the incident revealed some of its personnel had been dispatched to investigate.

NSIB is aware of a derailment of an Abuja-bound train from Kaduna which occurred halfway into the journey at Jere.

”A go team has been deployed to the site of the accident," the statement read.

There has been no official statement from the Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, concerning the incident.
