Kaduna: Bandits kill two herders, rustle 223 cows

On Saturday evening, two herders were shot dead and 223 cows were rustled by bandits in Haying-Dam, Kachia local government area, Kaduna State.

The bandits were reported to have attacked three herder camps in the vicinity using AK-47 rifles.

The incident occurred on Saturday, at 6 p.m. when the bandits first raided Alhaji Ibrahim Yabari's camp and rustled 123 cows before moving on to the second camp and stealing 100 cows.

A source revealed, “One of the bandits opened fire and killed two herders when they were trying to resist them from rustling the cows.”

According to the informant, troops stationed in neighbouring Janjala village later arrived in the community and were still looking for the criminals.

When reached, DSP Mansur Hassan, the Kaduna State Police Command's spokesman, did not answer his mobile phone.

Meanwhile, Katsina citizens have enthusiastically responded to the Katsina State Police Command's plea for information on two infamous bandit kingpins, Modi Modi and Jan Kare after a hefty reward of N50 million was offered.

The police issued a special bulletin inviting citizens to offer important information that could lead to the arrest of bandit kingpins operating in the Kankara and Safana Local Government Areas.

Residents have been contributing credible information since the announcement, proving their willingness to help improve the state's security operations.

The Katsina State Police Command expressed gratitude for the huge response and emphasised the importance of community involvement in combating criminal elements.

The police spokesman, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, stated that the command is actively evaluating the received information to discover leads that could lead to the arrest of the sought criminals.

“We have been receiving an avalanche of information from the people on the two bandits kingpins and even criminals generally in the state since our bulletin was out.

“The command is very appreciative of the people’s response. But, you know, we must sieve through the information to bring out the one that will lead to the arrest of the bandits kingpins.

“We are encouraged by peoples’ response and the command will implore them to keep on sending information not only on the two bandits kingpins but on criminals generally in the state so that the state would be rid of the criminals,” he noted.
