The Kaduna State Fire Service has said that it has recorded no fewer than 20 fire disasters and one death in August across the state.

This was disclosed by the Director of the State's Fire Service, Paul Aboi in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Kaduna.

He stated that one person had also sustained fire injuries while one other was rescued unhurt during the period.

He explained that the disasters were recorded in Zaria, Kafanchan and Kaduna.

According to him: “Properties worth N171,000 were saved from destruction within the period while properties worth N30,000 were destroyed."

He further stated that fire disasters in the state have reduced following public enlightenment and heavy rains in August.

While noting that most fire disasters were caused by electrical faults, he said 70 percent were caused by residents' carelessness.

He further appealed to the state governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufa'i to equip all local government areas in the state with fire fighting facilities while urging residents to possess fire extinguishers in their homes.
