Kaduna Tricycle Operators Lament Over Multiple Taxations

Kaduna Tricycle Operators Lament Over Multiple Taxations

The ban is said to be to deter crimes in the state

Aggrieved tricycle operators have lamented over multiple taxations by several government-supported transport unions in Kaduna state.

The operators who complained while speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday said the multiple taxations have made their work difficult.

An operator identified as David Akin said he pays at least N2,500 daily.

“Different unions will just print receipts and you see boys with unruly attitudes harass us while we are trying to make ends meet.

“I would love the Government to intervene by harmonising all these unions to one body so we know where our taxes are going to."

Some of them complained that they are unable to meet up their targets due to the multiple taxations which may cause trouble for them and the tricycle owners.

Another named Yusuf Nda added: “You come across a union that would demand N100, N1,000, N4,000 for either local government ticket, sticker or painting registration.

“This situation is what makes us increase our fare, and we will want the state government to intervene so that these multiple taxations will stop.”

According to the chairman of a regulatory union, Kadsico Unite Union, Shegun Samuel confirmed that the state has over ten unions with each claiming to be the most authentic.

“Unfortunately, while the Keke operators are suffering, the state government too is not generating enough revenue due to the proliferation of these unions.

“If you go to other states, they only have one Union but because of the selfish interest of some people, they just go and organise themselves and print receipts."

Meanwhile, a top member of the state's revenue board who pleaded anonymity said the union is in charge of vehicle registration and particulars taxation.

“There is also N100 daily levy the operators pay, aside from this, every other union collecting levies are operating on their own.”
