Kaduna: Troops ambush terrorists, neutralize six, recover ar

On Friday, May 24, 2024, Nigerian Army troops deployed for counter-terrorism operations in Kaduna State successfully ambushed and neutralised six terrorists while recovering weaponry and other logistics.

This was revealed in a statement released on Saturday via the official X page of the Nigerian army.

In the statement, the military quickly mobilised to intercept the attack after receiving credible intelligence about the movement of terrorist forces in Giwa and Birnin Gwari Local Government Areas (LGA).

The ambush operation took place at Kidandan Junction in Giwa LGA, where the forces waited and made contact with the militants. Following a lengthy firefight, the terrorists fled, leaving only one pistol.

The forces continued their operation, clearing Basurfe and Yuna communities. During this phase, they found one motorbike left behind by escaping militants who had crossed a neighbouring river valley.

The military tracked down the terrorists to Katoge hamlet, a known crossing place. They killed the terrorists' scout and recovered one semi-automatic pump-action weapon.

The operation concluded at Saulawa village, Birnin Gwari LGA, where troops intercepted several terrorists on motorcycles, resulting in a fierce exchange of fire.

The valiant forces defeated the attackers with superior firepower, killing 5 more. The engagement also resulted in the recovery of one AK-47, one G3, and nine motorbikes.

The successful operations demonstrate the forces' perseverance and dedication in combating terrorist activity in problematic areas of the region.

Meanwhile, in a recent anti-kidnapping operation, Nigerian Army troops laid siege to criminal hideouts in Abuja and detained three accused kidnappers.

Allnews.ng gathered that the suspects were captured when troops stormed their hideouts in Abuja's Bwari Area Council. Those apprehended include one informant for the kidnappers and two accomplices.

It is worth noting that the Bwari Area Council has recently experienced a rise in kidnappings. On Tuesday, more than 20 people were kidnapped in the area council.

According to a statement made by the Nigerian Army on Friday, soldiers recovered guns, five ATM cards, and illegal substances from the suspects.

It was revealed that on Thursday, May 23, 2024, forces raided the suspected kidnappers' hideaway in Ajegunle Mpape, located in the Bwari Area Council of the FCT, explicitly targeting a well-known informant who shelters kidnappers.

“During the operation, the troops apprehended an informant suspect named Ashiru Mohammed with two female accomplices, Raham Abubakar and Sadiya Mohammed.

“The suspects were found in possession of one Beretta pistol, one pistol magazine, and 21 rounds of 9mm ammunition. The troops also recovered five ATM cards from different banks, two mobile phones, and suspected illicit drugs. The suspects are currently helping in further investigations,” the statement noted.
