Shehu Sani, a former senator from Kaduna state, says Bello Matawalle, the Governor of Zamfara State, North-West Nigeria, should be appreciated for his reported role in securing the release of the Kankara students because he "saved the nation".
According to Sani via his verified Twitter handle on Friday, Governor Matawalle averted "another ‘Chibokian torment’ and ‘Dapchian trauma’".

"The Governor of Zamfara should be appreciated for his reported role in securing the release of the Kankara students," Sani wrote.
"He has saved the nation, the Katsina state and the FG from another ‘Chibokian torment’ and ‘Dapchian trauma’.

It would be recalled that 344 schoolboys were abducted from Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State, last Friday.
The boys were eventually released on Thursday night.

Matawalle disclosed that the Fulani apex socio-cultural organisation, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) negotiated with bandits for the release of the 344 schoolboys.
According to the International Crisis Group (ICG), bandit violence has displaced more than 200,000 people in the north-west.
Killings in Katsina have doubled this year compared to 2019.
