Kano: AGILE Project Trains Girls On Digital, Life Skills

During a town hall meeting at Dawakin Tofa local government area, Kano.

The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) in Kano State says girls selected from 200 public secondary school would be trained in digital and life skills.

The Project Coordinator, Ado Zango, revealed this on Thursday during a town hall meeting in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of the state.

He said the town hall meeting had been organised for Dawakin Tofa, Bichi, Rimin-Gado, Bagwai and Tofa local government areas to solicit the support of the communities for the project.

According to Zango, the pilot training is being implemented in collaboration with Kano State Government, adding the project targets girls from poor families at initial stage for enrollment into the Conditional Cash Transfer and digital skills programme.

Other components, he said, included awareness creation, advocacy and life skills, noting that the girls would be exposed to skills to enable them to become self-reliant.

Speaking at the event also, the Commissioner for Education, Abdullahi Yanshana reitrated state government’s  commitment to enhance girl child education.

He said the town hall meeting is designed to educate the stakeholders on impreative of girl child education.

Represented by Salisu Idris, Director, Development and Partnership in the state, the Commissioner said the government accorded premium to educational development.

He said the government had also increased allocation to the education sector in 2022 and 2023 budgets, and warned parents against withdrawing girls from schools.
