The Kano State government has commenced confiscation of lands and structures that have not been approved.

The government explained that the confiscated properties will be used as schools to curb the issues relating to congestion.

This was disclosed by the Kano state commissioner of information, Malam Muhammad Garba on Monday.

Garba said properties at Filin Bola along court road have since been confiscated in Tarauni local council.

He stated that a mega school would be established on the confiscated property.

He said, “In view of the prevailing security challenges coupled with the congestion of schools in the outskirt of the city, Kano state government has commenced the revocation of illegally acquired or not properly documented properties and structures within the metropolitan area for the establishment of mega secondary schools."

While explaining the reason for the confiscation, he said, “the measure is aimed at decongesting the boarding schools across the 36 local government areas following persistent abduction of students from boarding schools in neighbouring states.”

While acknowledging the recent offensive on bandits in neighbouring states by security agencies, he said the government is reviewing its security architecture.

Adding that the first proactive measure is to ensure the safety of students in schools around the state.

He further lamented how congestion is hampering the teaching and learning processes in schools.

He also added that the government will go after properties developed in conflict with what has been approved for the development.

The government is “looking into cases of land approvals for residential purposes but converted to shops or commercial plots that are now turned to residential buildings and vice versa," he stated.
