Kano Governor Declares State Of Emergency On Water Scarcity

Kano Governor, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf

Kano Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has declared a state of emergency on water scarcity, adding that the problem would be dealt with head-on.

The governor issued a one-week ultimatum to the management of Kano State Water Board to submit its demands and bring an end to the lingering water scarcity.

Yusuf, made the declaration when he visited the Challawa Water Treatment Plant for an inspection late Tuesday.

He said the development is part of his administration’s focus to cushion the effect of water scarcity across the state.

While on the inspection, the governor expressed dissatisfaction with the dilapidated condition of the facilities at the water treatment plant, saying that the issue of water shortage would soon become history.

The governor pointed out that the state government would fulfill its campaign promises, and urged Kano residents to give him the maximum cooperation.

Briefing the Governor, the Director of Production, at Challawa Water Treatment Plant, Sakabu Lawal explained that only two water pumping machines out of six are functional.

Water scarcity is no longer news as almost all the metropolitan local governments lack access to tap water, while the rural areas lack easy access to both tap and borehole water sources.
