Kano Increases Retirement Age For Teachers

The Kano State House of Assembly has amended section 14 of the state pension and gratuity law 2006, thus increasing teachers' service years in the state.

The amendment was made on Monday after the second and third reading of the section during a plenary session which was resided over by the speaker Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari.

During the second reading, majority leader of the house, Labaran Abdul Madari explained that the retirement age for teachers has been increased from 60-65 years while year of service was reviewed from 35 to 40 years.

The house mandated the clerk, Garba Bako Gezawa to go for the third reading.

After deliberations and considerations, the House then adopted the amendment of section 14 of the Kano state pension and gratuity law 2006.

Still at today's plenary, the House instructed contractor handling

Kano to Zaria road, to provide an alternative route for motorists.

It also asked for a speedy completion of the project, to alleviate suffering experienced by motorists plying the road.

This was sequel to a motion of urgent public importance, sponsored by members representing Rano, Kira/Garun Malam Constituency, Nurudeen Alhassan Rano and Musa Hayatu Musa Dorawar Sallau.

Movers of the motion argued that, the road construction has led to traffic hold up along Kura-Tamburawa and Karfi axis, where motorists and travellers were mostly stranded for hours due to the closure of some parts of the road under construction.

The lawmakers then unanimously asked the contractor to quickly do the needful.
