Kano: PHIMA seals Sassauka clinic for law violation

Kano: PHIMA seals Sassauka clinic for law violation

The Kano State Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA) has sealed off Sassauka Clinic and Diagnostic Centre in Rimin Kebe for alleged law violation.

The agency said the decision was part of its effort to sanitize the activities of health institutions across the state.

The Director General of the Agency, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim on Saturday explained that the clinic was using a name different from what was registered at the agency.

He added that the registration of the clinic showed Sassauka Clinic and Diagnosis while it operates with Sassauka Hospital without proper documentation that allowed the changing of name.

As contained in a statement by Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Information Officer of the State Ministry of Health on Saturday, the DG further explained that they also increased their services without notifying the PHIMA, citing that they changed the clinic from the initial six-bed clinic they have been approved for to a forty-bed capacity.

Abdullahi further stated that the agency's requirement for the establishment of a 40-bed capacity clinic was the provision of three medical doctors.

He added that findings by the agency revealed that the clinic only has one medical doctor who was not always present.

The agency further noted, "Even the supporting staff that assist in running the clinic were grossly adequately as per as the standard of operations is concerned."

The Director General also ordered the closure of the clinic and invited the owner to report to the agency next week to resolve the irregularities in the clinic's registration.

The statement partly reads: "The DG then reiterated the unwavering resolves of the PHIMA to keep on sanitizing activities of the private health institutions in the state, urging them to cooperate with his agencies in order to achieve the goal, which is providing an excellent health service delivery to the people.

"He commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the optimal attention he accorded the healthcare system of the state by putting in the needed strengths and resources to revive the sector to meet up with the global standard of operations.

"Prof. Salisu also appreciated the level of support and guidance of the Commissioner for Health Dr Abubakar Labaran to the PHIMA and other agencies under the ministry to discharge their activities with all the liberties devoid of interference so that people of the state become healthy and thrilled."
