Kano Police Denies Influx Of Bandits

In the petition, he argued attacks are blamed on Fulani without evidence

Kano State Police Command has denied reports of sighting bandits around Yamudawa, Kuntau area in the state.

Reports making the rounds on social media have been saying men, some in twos and threes on a bike, were sighted entering the state.

Many have out of fear taken to social media to warn one another of possible coordinated attacks.

However, speaking to the public through a video message on Tuesday, the state command's Police spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said the men sighted were not in large numbers as widely reported.

He said the six men were sighted on Saturday at about 10:00 pm, and have since been invited to the police station for questioning.

According to him, the men told the police they usually come to the area, before leaving for Southern states where they work as Achaba men.

SP Kiyawa said later, their host, 45-year-old Muhammad Dauda was also invited to the station where he confirmed their story.

He said the police take the security of lives and properties very seriously, and would not take matters like this lightly.

The Police spokesman warned against spreading news that would cause panic, urging residents to always contact the police if they sight any suspicious persons or activities.
