Kano Politicians Angered By Hanifa's Murder

Senator representing Kano Central, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau has promised Hanifa Abubakar’s family that he will closely follow the case to ensure that justice is served.

In a message delivered to the family on Sunday Senator Shekarau clarified that a heartless murder like this must not be swept under the carpet, vowing to follow it to its logical conclusion. Senator Shekarau prayed to Almighty Allah to give the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Meanwhile, the state's former Governor, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso on Sunday described the gruesome murder of five-year-old Hanifa by her school proprietor, AbdulMalik Tanko Muhammad as heartless.

The senator who spoke from his residence at miller road in Kano condemned the act and also vowed to ensure that justice is served in due course.

Speaking on Saturday, the member representing Nassarawa Federal Constituency of Kano State in House of Representatives Nasiru Ali Ahmad has petitioned the National Assembly over the killing of children in the area following the murder of Hanifa Abubakar, a five-year-old girl.

 

Ahmad, while on a condolence visit to slain Hanifa’s family, said he has already submitted a petition that would compel the federal government to take drastic measures against the nefarious acts.

Ahmad said that the amount of children that are today missing from his constituency is alarming and calls for immediate action to curtail it.

He added that he is, on the authority of the state government, convening a security summit with all those that matter from the area to ensure that incidents similar to Hanifa’s killing do not repeat themselves.

Also, the commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development in Kano, Dr. Zahra’u Muhammad has asked parents to always know the kind of school to enroll their wards in order to prevent ugly stories like Hanifa’s case from happening.

Dr. Zahra’u Muhammad who spoke to journalists Friday night lamented how parents would dump their children, especially girls at school without checking up on them.

The Commissioner was grieving the death of Hanifa, also expressed sadness over how girls are neglected by their parents, to the point of illegitimate pregnancy.

Recall that a man, Uche John in Kano last week colluded with one Mustapha and Isa to purchase a new born at Hotoro in Kano.

Uche , a resident of Sabon Gari was napped in the process of bargaining for an innocent child’s life when the police swooped in and arrested him along-side his accomplices.

While speaking with journalists, Uche said he was only ‘buying’ the baby because his wife is unable to conceive, adding his accomplices said the baby was born out of wedlock and the mother is in need of money.

The State Commissioner of Women Affairs mentioned that they have been trailing Uche’s movements before, he and his accomplices were finally cornered.
