Kano State Assembly Proposes Bill To Compel Indigene Employm

The Kano State House of Assembly has called on the executive arm to compel private sectors to employ certain percentage of indigenes to reduce unemployment in the State.

This followed a motion of urgent public importance by a member fromTakai Local Government, Alhaji Musa Ali Kachako supported by the lawmakers.

Alhaji Musa Ali Kachako, explained that the call became imperative inview of the attitude of most of the banks and telecommunication companies operating in the State towards meeting up with the federal Government’s directives of employing members of host communities as staff.

During an interview after plenary Tuesday the lawmaker explained to journalists that “…the truth is, as representatives of the people, we have thought that these type of bills are what we need to help our people and the state at large”.

“That is why we brought this motion to urge the executive arm to be alert and double efforts in securing jobs for the people…” He said.

After careful deliberations, the House constituted an eight member committee to conduct an investigation into the matter and report back within three months for necessary legislative action.

In another development, the 2021 supplementary Appropriation bill submitted by the Executive has scaled the second reading in the State House of Assembly.

Presenting the bill on the floor of the House, Majority Leader, Alhaji Labaran Abdul Madari said the supplementary budget of over 43 billion naira will be funded with grants from World Bank, International Partners, revenue from the federation account, loans and other sources of revenue generation.

He stressed that if passed into law, the supplementary budget will go a long way in ensuring timely completion of government projects and activities aimed at developing the State.

The House has mandated its committee on appropriation to scrutinize the supplementary budget and submit it’s report within four weeks.
