Kano to vaccinate children under five starting April

The Kano state government has disclosed its plan to commence a four-day polio vaccination campaign targeting children under the age of five.

Rabiu Ibrahim, the social mobilization officer at the primary health care management board, revealed this during an event organized by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in collaboration with the Board on Thursday.

According to him, the campaign will kick off on 20th April and run through 23rd April 2024.

"It will entail a door-to-door approach, with our vaccination team visiting households to administer oral polio vaccines to eligible children, that is children between 0-59 weeks.

"Our team will also traverse streets and markets to ensure broad coverage of vaccinated children," Ibrahim added.

He further highlighted that the campaign will extend to various schools, including public, private, and Islamic institutions.

"The objective is to ensure large coverage of vaccinated children and to foster a polio-free society," Ibrahim concluded.
