Kanu Felt Safe Saying Awful Things In UK About Nigeria - Buhari To UK Prime Minister

Kanu Felt Safe Saying Awful Things In UK About Nigeria - Buh

President Muhammadu Buhari has told the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK), Boris Johnson that Nnamdi Kanu felt safe in UK while spitting awful things about Nigeria.

The president made the remark on Thursday during a bilateral meeting with the prime minister in Kigali, Rwanda.

Buhari who reacted to the reports that his government has denied Kanu access to his lawyers said the reports were unfounded.

The president further stated that Kanu was being given the opportunity to justify his comments against Nigeria while in the UK in the face of the law.

“He felt very safe in Britain and said awful things against Nigeria.

"We eventually got him when he stepped out of the United Kingdom and we sent him to court.

"Let him defend all that he has said there. His lawyers have access to him."

Buhari further explained that his government would not risk admitting Kanu on bail for the fear that he would jump it as in the past.

While noting where the UK could come in to help Nigeria in the fight against insecurity, Buhari said stabilising Libya could be a good step.

He lamented that following the fall of Muammar Gaddafi's government, there has been unrestricted flow of weapons to the sahelian countries.

He added that armed guards of late Gaddafi "are causing havoc everywhere, as the only thing they know how to do is to shoot guns.”

The UK PM Johnson expressed delight over trade between his country and Nigeria.

He said the relationship between the countries has been a “very strong attachment."

“I just want to be sure that we are doing enough," he stated while describing the partnership as "massive" that needs to be capitalised on.
