Female professor Hauwa’u Yusuf, the Director of the Centre for Gender Studies, Kaduna State University (KASU) has secured a N34.7 million grant from Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for research purposes.
A statement by the university's Public Relations Officer, Adamu Bargo, described the National Research Grant Fund as a milestone in KASU's passion to promote research.
Bargo noted that the grant was secured by the Professor of Criminology and Gender Studies to conduct research on “Use of Intervention Strategies for Sustainable Wealth Creation Among Low-Income Women in Nigeria.”
He added that Yusuf would be joined by scholars from Covenant University and the University of Ibadan among others across the country in conducting the research.
The institution in the statement hailed Yusuf as the first female professor to attain such height and hold several positions.
“The University Management congratulates Yusuf for being the first female to attain the rank of a Professor in KASU and held various positions.
“Some of the positions include pioneer Director, KASU CONSULT, Head of Sociology Department, Deputy Dean, Students Affairs, Director Academic Planning, and pioneer Dean, Faculty of Education.
“Other positions held by the professor are Member/Chairperson of Adhoc/Statutory committees and currently the Director, Gender Studies”, he said.
Bargo added that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Musa of the institution, who congratulated the professor also emphasised his administration's zeal to reposition the KASU as a research-based university.
According to him, doing this will position KASU on the global map of research-based institutions.
