Katsina: Police Arrest Two Nurses For Allegedly Stealing New

The Katsina State Police Command have arrested two nurses for allegedly stealing of a newborn baby girl abandoned in a private hospital in the state.

According to locals, the mother of the newborn, identified as Shamsiya Sani of the Dandagoro Quarter, Katsina, gave birth to the baby on July 25, 2020 but abandoned the baby shortly after delivery leaving behind a handwritten note which explained that she took the action because the baby was born out of wedlock.

AllNews reports that the state police command paraded the two nurses identified as Misira Tijani and Grace Ejigu after they allegedly sold the baby to one Eucharia Onyema.

Briefing journalists on Tuesday, the spokesperson of the command, SP Gambo Isah, noted that the driver of a commercial tricycle hired by the two nurses took them to the Sabongarin Police Division after eavesdropping on their conversation.

Tijani said; “The baby is already receiving attention at the Social Welfare Department of the state Ministry of Youths and Social Development,” Isah stated

The nurses while speaking on their action, noted that they did not sell the baby but insisted they gave her to Eucharia Onyema on humanitarian grounds.

“We took the step on humanitarian grounds. We never sold the baby. The only mistake we made was not informing the hospital management before taking the action,”

Eucharia on her part also stated that she did not but the baby, adding that she collected her from the nurses with a view to taking care of her since she had no child of her own.
