Katsina: Radda hails UNICEF for educational support

Katsina Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda has hailed the United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF, for its efforts in supporting the education sector in the state.

Alhaji Idris Usman, the Assistant Director of Statistics at the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education made this known during the inauguration of the Community Schools Transition Monitors committee in Baure Local Government Area of the state.

He said the committee was inaugurated in partnership with the ministry, UNICEF and the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB on Friday.

Usman stressed the need for collective responsibility in advancing education in the state, saying "Education is the responsibility of all," and highlighted the importance of collaboration with key stakeholders, including the UNICEF and SUBEB to enhance educational development.

He further revealed some of the terms of reference of the committee, including "identifying the barriers hindering the smooth transition from one level of education to another and conducting sensitization campaigns to create awareness of the need for continuous schooling of students, especially girls."

Bashir Ya'u, the Governor's Media Assistant on Basic and Secondary Education stated this in a statement on Friday.

According to Ya'u, the Education Secretary of Baure LGA, Alhaji Imrana Isah appreciated the UNICEF, SUBEB and the education ministry for the initiative.

He assured that all stakeholders selected to be part of the committee would "do their best to ensure the success of the program."

In her earlier remarks, the Lead Facilitator of the program and UNICEF Consultant, (Dr) Hafsat Yahaya Yakasai said the initiative aimed to facilitate seamless transitions from primary to secondary and tertiary education levels.

She added that the initiative also sought to "recognizing and addressing obstacles hindering school transition for students and how to best ensure the transition of students to different levels of education."
