Katsina Varsity Wins ₦35.1 Millon Grant

The Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), in Katsina has won N35.1 million research grant from the 2021 Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

The spokesperson of the University, Malam Habibu Umar-Amin, told newsmen on Wednesday in Katsina that the intervention was for the TEDFund’s National Research Fund (NRF).

He said the fund shall be used for a research, titled ‘Automated Radiotherapy Treatment Planning Aid’ (ARTPA), a Cloud-Based Radio Biologically Optimised Treatment Planning Assistant with Real-Time Support for Sub-Saharan Africa’’ in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

“The University’s Director, Research and Development, Dr. Muhammad Ghazali Garba, who announced the development, said the funds shall be judiciously utilised."

Reacting to the development, the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Armaya’u Hamisu-Bichi, assured of his determination to continue to strengthen FUDMA to attract more grants that will boost staff and students’ capacities in teaching, research and learning.

He revealed that recently, the university also won another ₦32 million research grant from the National Research Foundation (NRF), Pretoria, South Africa, and the fund is being used for a research, titled ‘Transdisciplinary Research for Pathways to Sustainability Collaborative Research Action’.

“NRF is an agency of the South African Government, created to contribute to national development by supporting, promoting and advancing research and human capacity development through funding and partnerships for the advancement of knowledge, innovation development in all fields,” he said.

According to him, the Vice-Chancellor, has also congratulated two lecturers of the University, Ibrahim Danladi Sule and Hassan Abdulkadir, on their successful completion of Ph.D and Master Degree programmes, respectively, in different fields from two separate universities.

He revealed that Sule bagged a Ph.D in Natural Resources Management and Climate Change from Bayero University Kano (BUK), while Abdulkadir completed his M.Ed in Educational Management, from Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina.
