Kebbi Allocates Land To WACOT For Rice Academy

The Kebbi State Government has given approval for WACOT, a leading agribusiness company, to establish a Rice Academy in Suru Local Government Area of the state. 

Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu made the announcement during a tour of the second WACOT rice mill under construction in Argungu LGA.

The governor toured around the facility alongside the state governor-elect, Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu. 

The move is expected to enhance rice production in the state and boost investment.

Bagudu commended WACOT for its commitment to increasing rice production in Kebbi state, noting that the company has recovered ninety-nine percent of the loan provided to rice farmers to maximize production. 

He also expressed appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the establishment of Agricultural Mechanisation Workshop and Skill Acquisition Centre in Kebbi state.

This was contained in a statement by Yahaya Sarki, spokesperson to the governor, on Saturday.

According to Sarki, the governor-elect, Idris, praised WACOT for providing employment opportunities to indigenes of the state and reducing unemployment. 

He also appreciated Bagudu for providing an enabling environment for the company to operate successfully in the state.

Also speaking, Malam Farooq Gumel, Chairman of WACOT, announced that work on the second rice mill was nearing completion and was expected to be commissioned within the next months. 

He also highlighted that WACOT was producing vegetable oil, sesame, cashew, chicken and other food items in line with the quest for food security.

He added that WACOT has taken the responsibility of providing scholarships to four girls recently released from captivity for their educational pursuit up to University level.
