Kebbi: Bagudu Approves N1 Billion For FG-UBE Counterpart Fun

The Governor of Kebbi State, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, has approved N1 billion to the Kebbi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for the payment of the 2023 FG-UBE counterpart funding. 

This was contained in a statement on Friday by the spokesperson to the governor, Yahaya Sarki.

"Gov. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State has approved the release of One Billion, Two Hundred and Four Million, Four Hundred and Fifty-Two, Three Hundred and Fifty-Three Naira, Seventy-Six Kobo (=N=1,204,452,363.76) to the Kebbi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to enable it to access the FGN/UBE Matching Grant for the year 2023," Sarki stated.

He added that the fund would be used to fund additional classrooms in the state.

He added that other dilapidated physical structures in primary and Junior Secondary Schools in the state would also be renovated from the fund. 

The chairman of the state's SUBEB, Professor Sulaiman Khalid Jega, noted that "The amount will make the additional sum of N2,408,904,707.52 available for infrastructural development in the basic education subsector."

Jega added that the fund would also be used to provide additional school furniture, perimeter fencing of schools, and water anitation facilities such as boreholes and hand pumps.

"Others are Sports facilities, agricultural education as well as Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in all the schools under the board," he added.

He further appreciated the governor for his continuous support for the development of the state's basic education.
