Kebbi: FG lauds gov Idris for allocating land for agric inst

The Federal Government has commended Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris for allocating a 10-hectare of land for the construction of an Agricultural Machinery Development Institute in the state.

The land was recently donated to the FG's National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), the agency in charge of the project.

The agency's Director of Procurement, (Dr) Muhammad Muhammad Aliyu, who represented the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Malam Khalid Suleiman Halilu gave the commendation on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.

He appreciated the governor for the provision of the land, adding that construction wi commence in two weeks.

As contained in a statement by the governor's spokesperson, Yahaya Sarki on Sunday, Aliyu assured that all preparations have been completed to commence work on the site, including all engineering, architectural, civil and electrical designs.

He said: ''We have the bill of quantity ready and every approval needed from the government for the project has been obtained" he averred. 

While noting that the project has been captured in the 2024 budget, he added that ''We will start with what we can accommodate this year and we will continue next year. We have funds to commence the basic infrastructural construction."

On the part of the Kebbi State Government, Alhaji Dahiru Zaki, the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Office explained that the land was earmarked for the agency in the past two years.

He said: "The Machinery center is to serve as a Regional Office for the production of agricultural equipment and we are happy that today, we have handed over the land to NASENI. 

"I believe that Kebbi State was selected in the North West region because of its huge potentials in agriculture, particularly rice production and other crops."
