Kebbi Governor Recommits To Girl Child Education

Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu says his administration’s would continue to prioritise girl-child education.

Bagudu restated government's commitment during an unscheduled visit to Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) Ribah, in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of the state.

“Let me use this medium to assure you that my administration will prioritise girl-child education. Indeed, I am happy to see a large number of you back to school in spite of pockets of security challenges.

‘”Please endure and resist any fear, there is no substitute to education, I admire your courage and resilience," he encouraged.

The governor also prayed Almighty Allah to protect and bless the students in their endeavors.

He said that under Adolescent Girls Initiative (AGILE), a collaborative programme between the State Government and World Bank, girls’ schools in the state would be transferred and skills acquisition component provided to them.

Bagudu announced that through AGILE, the school would be fully equipped and upgraded with the necessary learning and entrepreneurship equipment.

The governor directed the Council Chairman to provide 20 bags of rice and 40 cartons of indomie to the students, as well as immediate repairs of toilets and the school hall pending the general repairs of the school.

 
In her address, the Principal of the school, Maryam Namadi, said the school had been recording tremendous success in the West African Examination Council (WAEC) results.

According to her, due to the regular support of the governor in the payment of the school’s examination fees, the school has been recording over 95 per cent success in WAEC.

According to NAN, while appreciating the visit of the governor, the principal informed him that the school had over 800 students, with 461 who had so far resumed from the holidays.
