Kebbi State Government has asked donor agencies and other stakeholders to continue with support in its quest to end maternal mortality.
The call was made by the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Halima Hassan Lamba when members of non-governmental organisations paid her a courtesy visit in Birnin Kebbi.
She said the roles of NGOs in promoting gender equality, nutritional value chain, and reduction of maternal mortality can not be over-emphasised.
"The presence and activities of NGOs and donor agencies will promote healthcare services and reduce poverty among less privileged persons in the society.
“We need to collaborate in the areas of childbirth, nutrition, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and maternal mortality, among others," she added.
On her part, the NGO's lead, and Executive Director, the Association of Women Living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (ASWHAN),
Kebbi branch, Esther Hinali said they visited the commissioner to seek the ministry’s collaboration on nutrition issues and related healthcare programs.
She said that NGOs have many healthcare-supported projects that would bring positive development to the state through the ministry.
Hinali, on behalf of the groups then congratulated the commissioner on her appointment, as she expressed hope for working together for the people of Kebbi.
