Kebbi: Idris pays N900 million in scholarship to indigent st

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris has approved the payment of N967.6 million in scholarship to 20,908 indigent students studying in 36 tertiary institutions across the country.

The governor's approval was conveyed on Thursday by the State Commissioner of Higher Education, Alhaji Isah Abubakar Tunga in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.

He explained that the payment covers for the registration of the 2023/2023 academic session. 

He said the gesture was in the governor's effort to transform the higher education in the state and sponsoring youths' education in the state. 

The governor's spokesperson, Yahaya Sarki in a statement said the commissioner appreciated the governor for the gesture.

He said the governor's gesture will pave the way for "the youths to prosper intellectually and to his unflinching commitment to youths development in the state."

The commissioner partly said: "Inline with Governor Nasir Idris' vision and mission in transforming higher education, and his determination to ensure that the youths benefit in the agenda of the current political dispensation by sponsoring students within and outside the country for the educational development of the state, his Excellency has, therefore, graciously approved the sum of N967.6 million being fees for the 20,908 students for the year 2022/2023 academic session."
