Kenya: Police Arrests Teachers For Forcing Pupils To Simulat

Kenyan Police Arrest Teachers For Forcing Pupils To Simulate Sex.

Kenyan police said on Thursday that they have arrested six teachers over a viral video of primary school pupils simulating sex as punishment in an incident that caused an uproar.

The video showed four boys acting sexually under a tree in the schoolyard while the teachers looked on.

They were dressed in their school uniforms.

In the 29-second clip, the six can be heard chatting and laughing in the background while one child, shirtless, dries tears off his face.

According to police, the video "exposing school children in an obscene act" was shot in Nyamache, a rural community around 300 kilometres (186 miles) from Nairobi, the country's capital.

Six teachers — five women and a man — have been arrested and “are assisting in (the) investigation”, police said in a report seen by AFP.

“Other preferable charges” and a report would follow, it added.

Social media users were outraged by the occurrence and demanded action in the country, which is primarily Christian and conservative.

Ezekiel Machogu, the minister of education, said the teachers would be subject to disciplinary procedures and, if found guilty, would be fired.

A person found guilty of coercing another person into performing an indecent act in Kenya is subject to a prison sentence of at least five years.
