Kenya: Police In Kisumu Take Cover As Protesters Hurl Stones

Police In Kisumu, Kenta Take Cover As Demonstrators Hurl Stones.

At the Kisumu bus terminus, the police had to seek shelter due to being bombarded by a barrage of stones during the ongoing high-cost-of-living protest being organised by the opposition leader, Raila Odinga.

Officers later assembled and used tear gas and gunshots in the air to disperse the irate protestors.

There were running clashes along the Jomo Kenyatta expressway as police hurled tear gas and demonstrators replied with stones.

Protesters resisted Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o's request to march to Nyamsaria on the outskirts of Kisumu along the Kisumu-Nairobi route.

Nyong'o one of the opposition leaders and a governor asked the protesters to march peacefully and not to destroy property.

However, those who disobeyed his call accused him of betraying Raila Odinga.
