A six-storey building under construction has collapsed in Ruaka, Kiambu county, Kenya.
According to a statement from St John Ambulance Kenya, the building collapsed near the Fortune Club area around 5 am on Thursday, November 17.
"The six-storey building has sadly collapsed over a neighbouring residential home. Ambulance team already on site and rescue operations underway," the statement reads in part.
"A family who was sleeping at the time it collapsed was believed to be trapped. Rescue team trying carefully to reach the family members alive," the statement added.
Kiambu county fire brigade, members of the Kenya Red Cross Society and police officers are already on site, according to reports.
The incident comes barely hours after the National Construction Authority (NCA) disclosed that the seven-storey building that collapsed in Kasarani was not up to code.
