Kenya: Woman Facing Murder Charges Bleats Like Goat In Court

Attendees at the Machakos law court in Kenya were on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, treated to a shock after a woman charged with murder started bleating like a goat.

Hours before the incident, Mary Mbithi, who is charged with murder in court, was supposed to appear for mention.

She is suspected of killing her daughter on January 20, 2022, according to court documents obtained by the Star, a Kenyan news media outlet. 

She was released on Sh500,000 (N1,769,946.18) in personal bonds after earlier entering a not-guilty plea to the crime.

At their home in Kathiani, Machakos' Mbee village, Mbithi is charged with killing her daughter by strangling her.

She was present in the courtroom where Judge Margaret Muigai would hear her testimony when the incident occurred.

Many onlookers were drawn to the court by the bleating and flocked there to see what was going on.

Before Muigai became aware of what had occurred, she had already issued an arrest warrant for the suspect for failing to appear in court.

After learning about the woman's situation, she later lifted the arrest warrant. The husband had appeared in court and had pleaded for mercy, saying he wanted to take the suspect to the hospital.

The case had since been adjourned to April 27, 2023.
