Kenyan Lawyer Charged With Fraud Over Forged Stamp

A Kenyan lawyer has been charged with forging an official stamp and signature of a colleague who works at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) as a lawyer. 

Jack Bikambo appeared in front of Milimani senior principal magistrate Martha Nanzushi on Tuesday and rejected four allegations.

He is accused of forging the stamp to get court orders against EACC.

The lawyer is also accused of embossing a counterfeit stamp impression in the name of Grace Wambui advocate and commissioner of oaths on a supporting affidavit on February 10, 2022, at Bigambo & Bigambo advocates office in Westlands, Nairobi, with the purpose to deceive.

It was for commissioning by claiming to be a genuine Wambui stamp impression.

He was also accused of forging a signature on the supporting affidavit in the name of Wambui on the same dates in his Westlands office.

He was also charged with fraudulently uttering falsified electronic documents through the Anti-corruption and Economic Crime Division on February 11, pretending it to be a genuine miscellaneous application commissioned by Wambui.

The court was also told that on March 9, 2022, at the EACC police station, Bikambo informed I.P Abdinoor Diba, a police officer, that Milimani's miscellaneous application was commissioned by Magua& Mbatha lawyers, which he knew to be untrue.

The said information was said to have caused the officer to believe which he ought not to have done.

The accused pleaded for lenient bond terms and requested to be supplied with witness statements from the prosecution.

He was released on a cash bail of Sh100, 000 (N363,647.38). The case was adjourned to two weeks.
