'King Of Boys' 2 Episode 7 Review: A Satisfying End With Possibilities For Further Exploration

'King Of Boys' 2 Episode 7 Review: A Satisfying End With Pos

The season finale of Kemi Adetiba's King of Boys: The Return of the King ties in all the loose ends, with Eniola Salami proving yet again that she is always a step ahead of her adversaries.

Dapo (Efa Iwara) makes the wise decision to go underground after he is betrayed by his boss and the credibility of his story on Salami destroyed. He decides to go underground to evade the police, oblivious of the fact that his estranged wife is helping them find him.

The First Lady of Lagos State (Nse Ikpe-Etim) is also implicated in the press conference held by Dapo's boss and just when she thinks things couldn't get any worse, her ruthless mother-in-law swoops in to land the killing blow, separating her from the life she has worked hard to get.

The highlight of the chapter is when Ade Tiger (Titi Kuti) betrays Salami (something that was teased earlier); it's a moment that is elevated by Sola Sobowale's flawless acting; the emotions on her face and the anguish are well depicted.

Things get more interesting when the double-cross turns into a triple-cross, setting the stage for something I never saw coming and one that will prove to be quite the controversy.

The last episode ends with a different 'King of Boys' sitting in the coveted throne, with an allegiance to the 'Oba' herself, opening up the different possibilities for the further exploration of the story (which I daresay we will all get to see).

For the most part, all the major actors give great performances (the standouts are Sola Sobowale and Nse Ikpe-Etim). Also, the episodic exposition of the plot comes in handy for what would have been a runtime of almost four hours if it had been a single movie.

King of Boys: The Return of the King isn't without some flaws (this chapter sees a few characters make questionable choices) but it showcases two of the best talents in Nollywood; Sola Sobowale and Nse Ikpe-Etim, plus the creative genius that is Kemi Adetiba.

I commend Kemi Adetiba again for her brilliance and unique vision. With Sobowale, she has created a character for the ages; a towering screen figure fans will remember for a long time to come.

Episode Rating: 7/10.

Overall Series Rating: 7.5/10
