‘Buga’ has got the oldies and youngins dancing to it since it was first released in May 2022 and now, the song's crooner Kizz Daniel has revealed the meaning of the track.
In an interview with Charlamagne Tha God and Angela Yee on ‘The Breakfast Club’, Kizz Daniel said ‘Buga’ means flaunting and celebrating one's success.
“It means to flaunt your success unapologetically.
"Just let people know that you've worked so hard and you deserve to celebrate your success,” Kizz Daniel said.
When asked if he knew ‘Buga’ would be a hit song, Kizz Daniel said; “Before my tour in the UK, I did like a four-city tour in the UK, I said to my team I wanted to put out a record before my concert.
"And I must say maybe that's why I'm here with you guys.”
Three days after its release 'Buga' became the number one song on Apple Music's top 100 in Nigeria.
It has also made history as the first-ever single to reach 1m streams on Boomplay within 24 hours.
The lyrics video which premiered on YouTube on May 4 (the same day it was released) has garnered over 17 million views as of the time of this writeup.
On May 15, the song hit another milestone as it becomes the most shazamed song in the world and also topped the number 1 chart in 13 different countries.
'Buga' held the number one spot with over six hundred and fifteen thousand (615,000) shazam.
The TG Omori-directed music video, which premiered on YouTube on June 22, has garnered over 39 million views as of the time of this writeup.
