After finding themselves in eighth place just a month ago, trailing fourth-placed Manchester United by 10 points, Liverpool's impressive run of six consecutive victories has propelled them to fifth, with only a point separating them from their arch-rivals, who still have a game in hand.
During a press conference ahead of their upcoming match against relegation-threatened Leicester, Klopp was reminded of their memorable comebacks in previous seasons, including the astonishing 4-0 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League semifinals in 2019, overturning a 3-0 first-leg deficit.
Liverpool also staged a remarkable comeback in the Premier League in 2021, securing a top-four finish despite seemingly insurmountable odds. A last-minute goal by goalkeeper Alisson Becker in a game against West Brom played a crucial role in their success.
Klopp reflected on these extraordinary moments, stating, "Everybody who was involved in these moments will never forget it in our entire lives, that's how it is. That means it's part of us." However, he acknowledged that the current situation is different since their destiny is not solely within their control.
The Liverpool manager conceded that achieving a top-four finish, which guarantees qualification for the next season's Champions League, appeared "completely out of sight" just a few weeks ago. Klopp also acknowledged that the teams above them, particularly Newcastle and Manchester United, would prefer Liverpool not to be in contention. Nevertheless, he emphasized that if those teams finish above Liverpool, they would deserve it.
Looking ahead, Klopp highlighted the significance of the current winning streak, stating that it sets the tone for the upcoming season after an inconsistent campaign. He stressed the importance of improvement and extensive training to make the team's playing style more natural and cohesive.
"This period is super-important because it gives us all a massive hint on how it could look, and we all know we are in the early stages," Klopp explained. "We have to improve, we have to train a lot, work a lot to make things more natural and more clear for the boys of what we want exactly."
While Klopp acknowledged that Liverpool's progress is encouraging, he emphasized the need to continue moving in the right direction and avoid settling for a mid-table position.
