KNUPDA demolishes 5,000 stalls at Kano main eid ground

KNUPDA demolishes 5,000 stalls at Kano main eid ground

The Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority, KNUPDA, has demolished over 5,000 stalls belonging to traders operating around the Kano Main eid Ground (Masallachin Idi) on IBB Way.

The demolition, carried out on Wednesday using heavy earth-moving equipment, was met with protests from the affected traders.

The action followed the expiration of a 48-hour notice issued by KNUPDA, which declared the traders were occupying the area illegally.

A visit to the site after the demolition revealed the previously obscured four walls of the Eid ground, with all stalls removed.

Many traders, who had been doing businesses in the area for 18 years, expressed their anger and frustration.

"We have nowhere to go now that we have been evicted," said one trader.

Another stated, "This area was allocated to us by the Kano Emirate Council through the late Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Tijjani Hashim, and officially by the previous administration."

The demolition comes just four days before the Id-el-Kabir celebration, a peak trading period when thousands of customers were purchasing items such as textiles, foodstuffs, footwear, plastic materials, and cooking utensils.
