The former Everton coach left his role as Netherlands coach in 2020 to his former club to replace Quique Setien. After several runs of bad form which saw the Catalonia club at 9th on the table, he was sacked.

Louis Van Gaal replaced him as the Netherlands coach and led the team to Euros and the World Cup in Qatar 2022. Van Gaal was diagnosed with cancer and he had to leave after the FIFA tournament in the Middle East.
Koeman 58, enjoyed playing spells at Groningen, Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona and Feyenoord.
