Kogi: Gunmen Bomb Police Station, Kill Officer

Gunmen on Friday bombed a police station at Eika-Ohizenyi in Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing one Inspector Jibril on duty.

One of the residents of the area identified as Mallam Momoh Abubakar revealed that the attackers invaded the Police Area Command office at around 12.15 am with the aid of explosives and other weapons.

According to Abubakar, the bomb the assailants threw into the station produced such a loud sound that it woke up those living in the vicinity, adding that the explosives brought down the building.

Speaking further, he said that the attackers operated for over two hours without any interference from security operatives or people in the area.

A police officer called Jibril but popularly known as Yellow, Abubakar disclosed, was killed during the incident while the only operational vehicle in the police station was destroyed.

He stated that the attackers shattered the windows of the Eika Community Central Mosque and a Catholic church close to the police station.

Reacting to the incident, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Edward Egbuka, said he had “ordered the deployment of additional operational assets, consisting of operatives of the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Quick Response Unit, State Intelligence Bureau in synergy with other security agencies to restore normalcy in the area.”
