Confluence University of Science and Technology, CUSTECH, in Kogi State, has announced a three-day mourning period in response to the kidnapping and murder of two of its students.

Olufunke Hudson, the CUSTECH Registrar, revealed this in a statement on Sunday.

On May 9, a group of university students, including James Michael-Anajuwe and Musa Hussein, first-year students studying software engineering and information technology, respectively, were abducted.

While preparing for their exams, which were scheduled to begin on May 13, they were kidnapped.

Security personnel and local hunters had succeeded in rescuing twenty-one of the students.

Hudson said: “It is with deep shock and pain that the management of CUSTECH is mourning our beloved slain students.

“Consequently, all activities in the university are to be held low-key from May 27 to May 29 in memory of our departed students.”

The registrar stated that the administration of the university expressed sympathy to the families and coworkers of the departed students and urged the parents, other relatives, guardians, friends, and well-wishers of the departed students to find comfort in God.

She added that more work was being done by the state administration to guarantee the safe return of the remaining students from their kidnappers.

“Gov. Usman Ododo is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that the students are released safely.

“We, therefore, urge everyone to remain calm and maintain the peace the state is enjoying,” she added.

Meanwhile, five victims kidnapped earlier in Aresuare area of Ajaokota, Kogi Central have been rescued by the Kogi State Police command.

The five victims were said to have been rescued in Adogo forest near Ajaokota, in Kogi Central by the police led by SP Yusuf Hantsi in collaboration with the local vigilantes on Thursday.

The state police public relations officer, SP William Aya, who made this known in a statement issued on Friday stated that the victims were kidnapped on 17/5/2024 while on transit along the Ajaokuta-Adogo road.
