The Kano State House of Assembly (KSHA) has promised to pass the pollution control bill 2022 into law to enable proper pollution control in the state.
Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Zubairu Hamza Massu while declaring a two-day retreat on Kano State Environmental Pollution Control Bill open in Kaduna on Thursday, added that it would speed up control of water, air or soil pollution.
“We are aware that our State is facing the threat of environmental pollutions such as air, water and soil, as well as radioactive and noise pollution to mention a few, all the above have various adverse health and operational effects on human beings hence the need for the control."
The Deputy Speaker said already the State House of Assembly was working on the bill and that it has since passed the second reading.
Massu urged the participants to interact freely and share ideas for the success of the retreat and finally come up with an all-inclusive bill.
Speaking earlier, the State Commissioner of Environment, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso said, "We converged here to deliberate and review the content of Kano State Pollution Control Bill."
Dr. Getso further stressed that legislation is an important instrument in the control of environmental hazards.
"I am duty-bound to express my sincere regards to the respected members of the House for their total commitment to the actualization of the set objectives among others."
