Major General Mayirenso Saraso, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and Force Commander of Operation WHIRL PUNCH, facilitated the handover of 131 students and pupils who were kidnapped in Kuriga, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, to Governor Uba Sani on Monday. These children were abducted on March 7, 2024.

During the handover, General Saraso revealed that out of the 137 children successfully rescued, six were receiving medical attention at the Army medical facility, while sadly, one school staff member, Mr. Abubakar, did not survive his captivity.

The rescued students were temporarily placed in a women and children shelter in Kaduna city for psychosocial therapy before being reunited with their families.

General Saraso explained that the rescue operation, which involved both kinetic and non-kinetic efforts guided by the President's directives, led to the safe retrieval of the abducted children after spending approximately 16 days in captivity.

The students received initial aid at the Nigerian Army Troops Forward Operating Base Dandadau in Zamfara State before being transported to Kaduna.

In response, Governor Uba Sani expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and all security agencies for their concerted efforts in rescuing the abducted children.

He emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation in combating insecurity, urging against speculation and misinformation regarding the children's release. Governor Sani assured continued prioritization of security measures to safeguard Kaduna State residents and communities.
