Kwara Begins Repairs Of N3.7 Billion Poorly Constructed Unde

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has directed that repair work should be undertaken at the damaged Geri Alimi Diamond Underpass in Ilorin, the state capital.

The underpass project was initiated under former Governor Abdulfatai Ahmed with a cost of  about N3.7 billion.

The new administration of Governor AbdulRazaq shut the underpass, citing poor construction, adding that it showed cracks a few months after it was delivered.

Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi expressed dissatisfaction at the shoddy work done by the contractor who was ordered back on site.

Three years after, the underpass that gulped billions of taxpayers money has become an eyesore.

Engr. Abdullahi Sule who visited the site independently said that there is no damp proof on the retaining wall and also no stone base under the asphalt.

The ministry of work has however commenced repair of the damaged part of the road which is an entry point for travellers.

Meanwhile, residents and passersby have continued to lament  over the waste of public funds on such a project that could not stand the test of time.
