La Liga: Cadiz Hold Real Sociedad In Goalless Draw

Real Sociedad

Real Sociedad's hopes of consolidating their position in third place in La Liga were dashed after a goalless draw with Cadiz at Reale Arena on Friday night.

The Basques were the better side but failed to convert their dominance into goals, leaving the door open for Atletico Madrid to overtake them.

Real Sociedad had held third place since November, but their inability to secure a win in this match could prove costly. Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid could move into third place if they beat Sevilla on Saturday.

The hosts controlled possession throughout the game and came close to scoring through Carlos Fernandez, whose effort flew narrowly off target in the first half. The introduction of veteran playmaker David Silva and striker Mohamed-Ali Cho from the bench failed to yield the desired result.

Cadiz almost snatched the victory when Roger Marti rounded goalkeeper Alex Remiro, but his effort hit the post from a tight angle.

The match took a worrying turn when Cadiz defender Fali was stretchered off after a collision with Mikel Merino at a corner. It resulted in 11 minutes of stoppage time, during which Alexander Sorloth had a golden opportunity to win the game for Real Sociedad but lashed his effort over the bar from close range.

Real Sociedad will now have to regroup and prepare for their next fixture, as they seek to keep their place in the top four of La Liga.
