La Liga: Lewandowski, Depay Send Barca Past Lowly Elche Into

Robert Lewandowski 's brace and a superb finish from Memphis Depay recovered Barcelona from mid-week loss to Bayern Munich and secured a 3-0 win over lowly Elche.

The victory at the Spotify Camp Nou sends Barcelona provisionally top of La Liga Santander before the Madrid derby tomorrow Sunday between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.

Elche who were siting second from the bottom of the table faced second-place Barca who have been unbeaten this season which was a daunting task in itself.

Elche were reduced to 10-man in the opening 15 minutes as Gonzalo Verdu was shown a straight red for bringing Lewandowski down, who was through on goal.

From that point, Barca started picking their pockets as Pedri, Ousmane Dembele and Alejandro Balde were making dangerous runs into the box.

The final one that opened the scoring was a pass to Balde on the left-wing, the left-back sent a low ball into the box for Polish striker Lewy to tuck it in. After Video Assistant Referee (VAR) intervention, the goal stood.

Barely 6 minutes later, Balde again with the assist, passed to Depay, he held off his marker before a powered shot into the roof of the net to make it 2-0 for Barca.

The first half ended 2-0 with Barca having 82 percent possession of ball.

The second half was a resumption of hostilities as Barca made it 3-0 through Lewandowski as he fired a loose ball into the net.

Barca now go into the International break as La Liga leaders provisionally except Real Madrid come out victorious from the Derby.

After the break, Barca will face Mallorca before a crunchy match against Inter Milan in the Champions League.
