Labour Gives Ortom 21-Day Ultimatum To Clear Salaries

The Governor of Benue State Samuel Ortom has been give an ultimatum of 21 days to pay up salaries owed in the State.

This include 5-Months' Salaries, 34-Months Pension Arrears And 74-Months Pension Arrears Of LG Pensioners.

Responding to this Ortom, promised a peaceful resolution, stating that means will be sought to clear up issues as regard salary payment. 

“It is something we have to look at better ways of earning money to pay. Benue is paying one of the highest salaries. Notwithstanding, we will engage them and resolve the issues," the Governor said.

“It is on this note that the Internally-generated Revenue (IGR) of the state needs to be improved upon to complement what comes as federal allocation. 

“The processes of even borrowing or collecting loans are very cumbersome; so borrowing becomes a very difficult thing. Before a state borrows, the Federal Government must give approval.

“I inherited N70 billion debt in salaries, pensions and gratuities," he Ortom added.
