Lafia DPO Queried, Removed From Division Over Extortion

Lafia DPO Queried, Removed From Division Over Extortion

The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, CP Adesina Soyemi, has ordered with immediate effect the removal of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ombi 1 Lafia, Superintendent Ugochukwu Theodore.

Theodore had allegedly written all hotels in his jurisdiction demanding money for the repair of an official petrol vehicle. In return for the gesture, the hotels would be effectively protected, it was said.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Rahman Nansel in a statement confirmed the above as untrue, stating that the Hilux given to the DPO was a new one that required no repairs.

“The attention of the Nasarawa State Police command has been drawn to a letter written by the DPO Ombi 1, Lafia to Hoteliers and private business owners soliciting for funds to fix the patrol vehicle recently given to the Division by the commissioner of police, CP Adesina Soyemi.

“The act of the DPO came to the commissioner as a shock. CP Adesina Soyemi provided Ombi 1 division with a brand new Toyota Hilux patrol vehicle. The vehicle was without any fault and doesn’t require any electrical/welding works, neither does it require new tyres.

“Given this, the commissioner of police has issued the DPO Ombi 1 SP Ugochukwu Theodore an official query and ordered for his removal from the division,” the statement reads.
