Lagos Asks Traditional Rulers To Resume COVID-19 Awareness

In the heat of the Second wave of COVID-19, the Lagos State Government has charged traditional rulers, Chairmen of Local Government and Local Council Development Area to resume public awareness in their locality.

Making this call during a stakeholder-meeting with the Council of Obas and Chiefs and LG/LCDA Chairmen on Monday, the Commissioner for Local Government & Community Affairs, Wale Ahmed, also directed Council Chairman to fumigate their localities.

The directive became necessary in the wake of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ahmed explained that the directive is to ensure that communities strictly adhere to the guidelines of the state government in a bid to curb the spread of the virus.

"It is very vital that we all must ensure that residents of our various communities must comply with all safety directives, such as the wearing of facemasks, physical distancing, regular hand-washing and the use of alcohol-based sanitiser,” Ahmed said.

This development comes as the state government re-opened schools in the state for academic activities after a long break.

Recall that the pandemic had crippled academic activities for about 8 months. The development however forced most private schools to adopt e-learning.
