Lagos By-Election: Low Voters Turnout Recorded At Shomolu, K

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recorded a low turnout of voters in Shomolu, Kosofe local government at the ongoing Lagos East senatorial district By-Election.

The election which is taking place in Shomolu, Kosofe, Ikorodu, Ibeju-Lekki and Epe has 12 candidates contesting for the senatorial seat made vacant by the demise of Adebayo Osinowo in June.

According to TheCable, Shomolu and Kosofe LGAs as at 9am witnessed a low turnout of voters.

According to the Polling Officer of  PU 23 in Shomolu people were not coming out to vote at the election billed to end by 2:30.

"Only five voters have registered so far since 8am. People are not coming out and the election ends by 2:30pm.”

Also, at PU five in Shomolu LGA had only recorded one voter while at PU 22, voter.

“I haven’t recorded any voter at all. I don’t know why people are not coming out”, the polling officer of PU 22 said.

Recall that AllNews had earlier reported that YIAGA had in a tweet predicted that there will be a low turnout of voters at the By-election that is currently holding across 11 states of the federation.

"Yiaga Africa projects low voter turnout for today's Bye-Elections, owing to diminishing public interest in the process and low voter-education, voter mobilization, and publicity by INEC, political parties, and electoral stakeholders in the respective states," it tweeted.
