Lagos Extends Market Opening Hours

The Lagos State Government has extended the working hours of traders at both food and non-food markets.

The state government announced this in a tweet by the Chief Press Secretary of the state governor, Gboyega Akosile on Sunday.

He stated that markets can now open from 8 am to 6 pm.

Akosile stated that the decision of the state government was contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Wale Ahmed.

He added that the decision to extend the market hours by the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu is to improve trade and commerce and lessen the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the statement, Ahmed stressed the need for the state government to maintain the current alternate days of market operations, with food markets left open on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

However, non-food markets will continue to maintain their opening days of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Ahmed enjoined all Lagosians to continue complying with the COVID-19 directives for the safety of residents and the country "at large."
