Lagos: Man apprehended for forging magistrates stamps, imper

A 48-year-old Lagos resident named Charles Chukwudi has been arrested by police for faking Magistrates stamps and impersonating a police officer in the state.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, announced on Thursday that detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, of the State Police Command had arrested Chukwudi following discreet investigations into his issuance of fake court documents to unsuspecting members of the public. 

According to a police spokesman, upon his arrest, falsified official stamps of Chief Magistrate Admin, C/M Adeola Olatunbosun - Chief Magistrate Court I Yaba, and Magistrate A.B Ajiferuke of Magistrate Court Epe were discovered in his hands. 

He also had a false police identity card and a passport photograph of the suspect in police gear that had been edited, according to the inquiry.

Hundeyin stated that the suspect was detained on Wednesday at Tinubu Court on Lagos Island and has since been arraigned.

“Investigations had commenced into his fraudulent activities after its discovery by some court officials who in turn alerted the police,” Hundeyin added. 

In the same vein, Chimereze Chinedu has been arrested by the police in Lagos State for alleged fraud.

He was alleged to have defrauded a citizen of Thailand of the sum of two hundred and sixteen thousand Dollars ($216,000).

His arrest was disclosed by the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin on Tuesday.

According to Hundeyin, "Chimereze defrauded his victim under the pretence of selling 37 tricycles to her.

"He further expanded his fraudulent activity by forging letters of the State Criminal Investigative Department, Lagos showing that the tricycles were seized by the police and further extorted Thirty Million Naira from the victim to purportedly secure the release of the tricycles.

"The suspect was arrested on May 10, 2024, in Enugu State following weeks of diligent investigation and technical support from the INTERPOL.

"He is currently in detention, as investigations continue to uncover details towards identifying and apprehending his accomplices.

"The Lagos State Police Command remains steadfast in its commitment to combating internet fraud and ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice."
